Hello Everyone! I hope you all have been having a great October. This weekend, I went home for the weekend and my parents decided they want to go see Gone Girl. I already read the book over the summer and it was a pretty intense read. So I already knew what happened but I am always curious to see how the movie is compared to the book. Plus, they are saying that there might be an Oscar movie and I love the Oscars and Oscar movies so that is another reason I went.
Summary: On Amy and Nick Dunn's 5th anniversary, Nick comes home to his wife missing and his living room turned upside down. He calls the cops and they start an investigation. Throughout the first half of the movie, all the clues link to Nick. Credit Card Statements, not knowing basically anything about his wife. But then a twist of fate happens and the truth begins to unravel. I cannot say what happens because it will definitely ruin the ending but let's just say, do not always judge a book by it's cover.
My Opinion: I honestly was freaking out on the way to the movies. It is because I read the book, I knew what happened, and the book was so messed up that I was wondering how the movie would portray the book. My first instinct was that I loved the cast. I thought the cast was incredible. Ben Affleck plays Nick Dunn and Rosamund Pike plays Amy. They perfected the roles of Amy and Nick Dunn and it was incredible. Then I started realizing that I really enjoyed the directing. The director of Gone Girl was David Fincher who is an incredible director. But overall, I actually really enjoyed the movie. I thought that the whole story line stayed true to the book, that there was not one weird added scene that made no sense. I was really impressed.
Now, would I recommend seeing the movie or read the book first? I always recommend reading the book first because the books are normally better. But honestly, if you do not like to read, then see the movie. The movie captures the essence of the novel.
I do recommend this movie. It definitely is not a date night movie for sure but it is a movie to see.
I hope you all enjoyed this quick blog post. Sorry I haven't been posting as much, school has gotten in the way. But I hope you all are having a wonderful day/evening. If you have any questions or recommendations, please tweet me!
Carpe Diem,
Sophia
