Hello everyone!
I hope you all are enjoying this series. I know I have not been posting a lot of beauty posts but honestly, there is nothing to post that is truly wowing me. But I have found some new body products that I want to talk to you all about. So that will be my next post!
Today, I want to talk to you about another YA novel, Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. This is a dystopian novel that has been talked about for quite sometime. Dystopian novels have always been one of my all time favorite types of novels, especially since I read the Hunger Games. I have read all the "best" dystopian novels in the last couple of years but still The Hunger Games is still my favorite.
Summary:
Mare Barrow lives in a world that is based on what type of blood you have, silver or red. Red blood, means you are common. Silver means you are an elite and have powers that can allow you to destroy a red blood.
Mare Barrow's blood is red.
When she finds herself in the land of the silver bloods, she has to figure out who to trust, who to believe, but also who will have her back.
In the life of the Mare Barrow, there will be betrayal, heartbreak, love, but in the end, will she rise or fall?
Overview:
I honestly have mixed feelings about this novel. I thought it was good. I was not amazed. I did not feel that this was going to beat my favorite dystopian novel. I felt that the story line itself was extremely interesting. I love the idea behind the novel. My biggest issue was the way it was written. Sometimes, there was absolutely no flow throughout the story. I felt that there were missing chunks or descriptions or something that needed to tie one page to another. This is one of the first times I have ever felt that way about a novel.
If you are someone who loves dystopian novels, I recommend you read it and see what you think about it. Like I said, the concept was really interesting, the writing, unfortunately, was not.
And I also wanted to mention that I did read the second novel, Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard. That novel, I was completely disappointed. The writing in that novel was even worse than Red Queen. There were constant jumps and nothing tied together and it made you have to read back a couple of pages to understand where the story was going.
It is unfortunate because the concept of the story is so interesting and different.
But those are my thoughts on the Red Queen as well as the Glass Sword. I would not run out and buy the book honestly. Maybe rent it at the library to save yourself some money. But also, you might enjoy it and think that I am crazy. That is all right. Everyone has different opinions on different books.
I hope you all enjoyed this Sophie Reads. I will start having more beauty posts soon. I hope you have a good day/ evening!
Carpe Diem,
Sophia
